Global Vision: informing decision makers world-wide
From the Editor
Dear Readers, As you read this summer 2010 will be in full spring with advertising campaigns already hinting of the end of summer, start of autumn and looming festivities signalling the change of another year. This will feel reinforced by the recent football (soccer) world cup held in South Africa. A month long sporting festival came to a close leaving one team ecstatic, another dissapointed and sports fans satiated or perhaps even exhausted by the spectacle. Meeting with the UN Secretary General on the way to celebrate 50 years of independance of the Congo found the leader of the only organization representing all nations in upbeat mood. He put to me that the Congo will have his strong personal support during his tenure as Secretary General believing a stable and growing Congo can do much for the prospects of the region. South African President Jacob Zuma also received praise for the good work done in bringing the energizing effect of the world’s most followed world competition to not just South Africa but Africa as a whole. The effect of the market and sports machine can sometimes have the effect of demotivating us to build real pursuits and goals into our summer. This issue of Globalvision covers a number of different kinds of travel opportunities and ideas for activities to pursue this remaining summer, ranging from the tropical paradise of Hawaii, through winter sports in Aspen to the pleasures of summer in up-state New York. Regarding the latter, many infrequent visitors to the metropolis of New York are largely unaware of the pleasures of the state. Another form of climate is the moral fall-out of the financial market driven catastrophe which has afflicted the global economy over the past 18 months. It is timely to include a substantial contribution on the concepts of Social and Corporate Responsibility. This issue also seeks to offer an up-lifiting moral profile of the New York Fire Department, a non-commercial or profit making organization protecting citizens in various guises for a few hundred years. In terms of food for thought this issue also provides a perspective on some of the weightier issues of today. Our correspondents provide insights into the recent UK General Election which resulted in the first coalition government since the early 1970s. Also there is a profile of the entertainment industries most high-profile international event - the Cannes Film Festival held in the South of France. Pending the actual arrival of autumn, on behalf of the Globalvision team I should like to wish you, our readers, a very enjoyable summer. Paul Trustfull Editor-in-Chief Global Vision Magazine
