Interview with John Esposito

In today’s world, the Islamic faith is a topic that is widely discussed but poorly understood. The richness of Islam is often undermined by the media’s myopic portrayal that more often than not offers representations of the religion’s extremist forms. Having myself grown up in the world’s largest Muslim nation, Indonesia, the contrasts between Islam’s representations in the media ...
... and the moderate Islam observed from day to day in Indonesia are irreconcilable. However, to say that today’s media offers a false representation of Islam assumes that there is one way to represent Islam truly. With more than one billion Muslims in today’s world, to say that there is one ‘true’ way in which to understand Islam would be wholly inaccurate.
